Is Tony Perkins Doing a Vitter?

On his Facebook page, David Vitter just thanked Family Research Council President and former Louisiana legislator Tony Perkins for hosting a Vitter  event in a church last night.

Senator David Vitter: Last night I participated in a community wide town hall in Greenwell Springs to discuss health care reform. Was a great meeting. Special thanks to Tony Perkins and a group of local churches who partnered together to host a panel discussion on health care, allowing over 800 in attendance to participate in this important topic.

Perkins has been among the harshest critics of Vitter’s philandering and hypocrisy. When news first broke that Vitter was implicated in the DC Madam scandal, Perkins released a scathing statement:

Adultery is a serious matter that affects not only the individuals involved but families and the well being of the entire community. Voters have the right to consider issues like this when they assess the character of an elected official.

Earlier this year, Perkins said Vitter’s scandalous liaisons are still a problem.

“I don’t think he needs to say anything else about it, but I don’t think he can do anything else about it,” Perkins said. “Can people feel a sense of trust in him to publicly stand with him and support him and help him? Maybe he has [gotten to that point]. I know I still get some questions. I think he is certainly vulnerable [to] a challenge from the right — a candidate without issues.”

Oddly enough, given Vitter’s month-long campaign publicity tour, it appears there was no public announcement  made about Vitter’s campaign event with Perkins, and no media coverage exists. We’ll keep looking.
