UPDATE: Vitter Turns His Back on Rape Survivor at Town Hall

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

UPDATE: We’re hearing that a whisper campaign has begun to try to discredit Jennie Waldrop, the brave rape survivor featured in this video. Use the form below to let Jennie know you will support her.

More than 150,000 people have viewed this clip of David Vitter’s confrontation with a rape survivor in Baton Rouge last week.

The Advocate has more on the courageous woman who took on David Vitter:

Jennie Waldrop, a senior at LSU, clashed with the Louisiana Republican on Saturday over an amendment he opposed last month. The legislation would bar the federal government from contracting with companies that require employees to handle sexual assault claims through arbitration.

Waldrop said she was raped in November 2005 by a man who broke into her apartment, beat her, raped her, held her hostage and threatened to kill her. The perpetrator was arrested and is now serving a life term in Angola State Penitentiary, Waldrop said.

Let’s make sure sure Jennie Waldrop knows how brave she is.  Use the form below to send a message to Jennie right now.

BREAKING: Vitter Features Hannity Video on Website

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

BREAKING: A video clip of Fox New’s Sean Hannity is featured prominently on David Vitter official web site.

OK, maybe this isn’t BREAKING news, but it sure is interesting.

You see,  Sean Hannity doesn’t think David Vitter should be in the Senate at all.  After Vitter admitted breaking the law two years ago, Sean Hannity called on him to resign.

I think Senator Vitter should probably live by the line that he put out for Bill Clinton back in the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

If you didn’t catch the reference, David Vitter called on President Bill Clinton to resign. (And former Representative Bob Livingston too.)

Does Hannity still think Vitter should resign? Maybe they’ve kissed and made up.

Admitted Law Breaker Vitter Wants to Evict Law Breakers from Their Homes

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Seriously?

Today, admitted law breaker  David Vitter brought an amendment to the floor of the U.S. Senate that would have evicted residents of public housing in New Orleans if any member of their family was caught breaking the law.

Seriously David Vitter?

Under Vitter’s plan, if a 16 year old was caught and convicted of crime, then his mother, father, all his siblings and any other family members who live with him would be put out onto the street.

Vitter said New Orleans’ public housing projects have been plagued by drug violence. “The federal government should not turn a blind eye and continue funding the bases for such criminal activity,” he said in a statement.

Senator Vitter, if you really want to make sure the federal government doesn’t fund ’such bases for criminal activity,’ may we suggest you stop drawing a paycheck and shut down your taxpayer-funded office.

“Those Rumors are Absolutely True”

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Remember that time Vitter admitted frequenting prostitutes? No, not that time. He accidentally copped to his philandering in 2002.

Vitter Calls for Investigation into Prostitution Allegations

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

This is Doing a Vitter at a whole new level:

Vitter and U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, R-Lafayette, are among several Republican lawmakers calling for investigations and audits following three videos released last week in which ACORN workers in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Brooklyn, N.Y., advised people posing as a pimp and prostitute how to skirt federal tax laws.

It’s hard to believe David Vitter and the prostitutes he paid for services didn’t violate a tax law or three.

Maybe if ACORN just calls a quick press conference and mumbles the words “serious sin,” David Vitter will cut them a break.

Malkin’s Hot Air: Vitter Shouldn’t be in Senate

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

In bashing a certain former Governor who was caught using the services of prostitutes, Michelle Malkin’s Hot Air stumbles into doing a Vitter.

And worst of all, Spitzer dragged his wife onto the dais with him when he resigned instead of standing by himself and taking his medicine.  That takes a special kind of testicular inadequacy, one that should stick to him like a political tattoo…

Hmm. That scene sounds familiar.

Apparently a few people noticed this stunning coincidence.

I’m getting a few e-mails asking me how I feel about Senator David Vitter (R-LA), who admitted to infidelities but didn’t quite admit to allegations that he frequented a prostitution ring.  While it’s not quite the same thing — Vitter never made a public career out of prosecuting hookers and pimps, like Spitzer did — I’d say that if he did participate in the ring, he shouldn’t be in the Senate.  Surely our bar should be at least that high. [Emphasis added]

So, Hot Air thinks that  a politician who privately frequents prostitutes while publicly posturing as a moral crusader has no business in elected office.

Apparently,  Hot Air thinks David Vitter should resign.  From the Times-Picayune:

Days after Senator David Vitter apologized for using an escort service in Washington, D.C., a woman who once worked as a prostitute in Louisiana said he was a regular client of hers several years ago while he was a state legislator.

Or how about a source Hot Air might trust a little more. From Fox News.

Jeanette Maier on Tuesday said Vitter was once a client of the Canal Street brothel. She pleaded guilty to running the operation in 2002. Vitter won his seat in the U.S. Senate in 2004.

And, while it’s t rue that David Vitter was never a prosecutor, he certainly made a public career out of crusading against the ethically-deficient and morally questionable.

From the beginning of his political career 16 years ago, Senator David Vitter has been known for efforts to plant himself on the moral high ground, challenging the ethics of other Louisiana politicians, decrying same-sex marriage and depicting himself as a clean-as-a-whistle champion of family values.

No word on when Hot Air plans to officially call on David Vitter to resign. We’ll keep you posted.

Is Tony Perkins Doing a Vitter?

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

On his Facebook page, David Vitter just thanked Family Research Council President and former Louisiana legislator Tony Perkins for hosting a Vitter  event in a church last night.

Senator David Vitter: Last night I participated in a community wide town hall in Greenwell Springs to discuss health care reform. Was a great meeting. Special thanks to Tony Perkins and a group of local churches who partnered together to host a panel discussion on health care, allowing over 800 in attendance to participate in this important topic.

Perkins has been among the harshest critics of Vitter’s philandering and hypocrisy. When news first broke that Vitter was implicated in the DC Madam scandal, Perkins released a scathing statement:

Adultery is a serious matter that affects not only the individuals involved but families and the well being of the entire community. Voters have the right to consider issues like this when they assess the character of an elected official.

Earlier this year, Perkins said Vitter’s scandalous liaisons are still a problem.

“I don’t think he needs to say anything else about it, but I don’t think he can do anything else about it,” Perkins said. “Can people feel a sense of trust in him to publicly stand with him and support him and help him? Maybe he has [gotten to that point]. I know I still get some questions. I think he is certainly vulnerable [to] a challenge from the right — a candidate without issues.”

Oddly enough, given Vitter’s month-long campaign publicity tour, it appears there was no public announcement  made about Vitter’s campaign event with Perkins, and no media coverage exists. We’ll keep looking.

UPDATE: A C Street Family Reunion

Friday, August 28th, 2009

UPDATE: Tom Coburn apparently decided against Doing a Vitter. The Times-Picayune reports that Coburn was a no-show at Vitter’s campaign event today.

Call it a ‘Family’ reunion in the Big Easy.

This Friday, Senator Tom Coburn will Join David Vitter for a campaign event in New Orleans, just in time for the four year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Prior to her death, the DC Madam, Deborah Jeane Palfrey told reporters that she knew our own David Vitter simply as “David from C Street.”

Coburn, a doctor and ordained minister from Oklahoma, lived with Nevada Senator John Ensign at C Street, a sort of religious fraternity house in the shadow of the U.S. Capitol.

The husband of Ensign’s mistress reportedly came to Coburn for help upon discovering the affair. The good doctor’s advice:

Coburn told Ensign he needed to pay off the mortgage on their $1.2 million Las Vegas home and move them to Colorado.

Charming.

If it seems odd that Ensign would have gone to Coburn for advice, he apparently has quite a reputation as a philanderers confidant in DC.

Coburn said he has acted as a counselor to other lawmakers in the past.

“Ya’ll don’t know about all the people I’ve counseled,” he told Roll Call when asked why Ensign sought his help.

It is unkown what advice Coburn may have given our own Senator, since it appears Vitter already understands the subtleties of a well-timed financial transaction.

‘A Load of Crap’

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

The Advocate reports that Vitter got into a little hot water at his latest town-hall campaign event yesterday:

Near the end of the question-and-answer session, Hillary Poucey sought Vitter’s support on legislation that would require health insurance policies to provide autism coverage. Vitter said he was unfamiliar with the legislation and would have to look at it.

“He has short-term memory loss,” Poucey said later. She said the legislation has been discussed with Vitter and one of his aides in recent months. “He said ‘I don’t know enough about it.’ That’s a load of crap,” said Poucey, accompanied to the meeting by her 8-year-old autistic son, Jonah.(Emphasis added)
