In bashing a certain former Governor who was caught using the services of prostitutes, Michelle Malkin’s Hot Air stumbles into doing a Vitter.
And worst of all, Spitzer dragged his wife onto the dais with him when he resigned instead of standing by himself and taking his medicine. That takes a special kind of testicular inadequacy, one that should stick to him like a political tattoo…
Hmm. That scene sounds familiar.
Apparently a few people noticed this stunning coincidence.
I’m getting a few e-mails asking me how I feel about Senator David Vitter (R-LA), who admitted to infidelities but didn’t quite admit to allegations that he frequented a prostitution ring. While it’s not quite the same thing — Vitter never made a public career out of prosecuting hookers and pimps, like Spitzer did — I’d say that if he did participate in the ring, he shouldn’t be in the Senate. Surely our bar should be at least that high. [Emphasis added]
So, Hot Air thinks that a politician who privately frequents prostitutes while publicly posturing as a moral crusader has no business in elected office.
Apparently, Hot Air thinks David Vitter should resign. From the Times-Picayune:
Days after Senator David Vitter apologized for using an escort service in Washington, D.C., a woman who once worked as a prostitute in Louisiana said he was a regular client of hers several years ago while he was a state legislator.
Or how about a source Hot Air might trust a little more. From Fox News.
Jeanette Maier on Tuesday said Vitter was once a client of the Canal Street brothel. She pleaded guilty to running the operation in 2002. Vitter won his seat in the U.S. Senate in 2004.
And, while it’s t rue that David Vitter was never a prosecutor, he certainly made a public career out of crusading against the ethically-deficient and morally questionable.
From the beginning of his political career 16 years ago, Senator David Vitter has been known for efforts to plant himself on the moral high ground, challenging the ethics of other Louisiana politicians, decrying same-sex marriage and depicting himself as a clean-as-a-whistle champion of family values.
No word on when Hot Air plans to officially call on David Vitter to resign. We’ll keep you posted.
